Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (182°C) for 3–5 minutes.
A hot basket helps waffles crisp faster.
Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Combine the wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla.
Make the batter: Pour wet into dry and whisk just until combined. A few small lumps are fine. Avoid overmixing.
Prep the molds: Lightly oil or spray silicone waffle molds so the waffles release easily.
Fill and level: Spoon batter into the molds, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
Smooth the tops with the back of a spoon for even cooking.
Air fry the first side: Place filled molds in the air fryer basket. Cook at 360°F (182°C) for 6–8 minutes, until the tops are set and lightly golden.
Release and flip: Carefully lift the waffles out of the molds (use tongs or a spatula). Place the waffles back in the basket, pattern side up, to crisp the exterior.
Crisp the second side: Air fry another 3–5 minutes, until deeply golden and crisp at the edges.
Serve hot: Plate right away with your favorite toppings.
For a crowd, keep finished waffles warm in a 200°F (93°C) oven while you cook more.
For Frozen or Refrigerated Waffles: Preheat to 360°F (182°C). Air fry refrigerated waffles for 2–3 minutes per side; frozen waffles for 3–4 minutes per side, until crisp and heated through.
