Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 390°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes.
Preheating helps the hot dogs blister nicely.
Prep the hot dogs: Pat them dry. For extra snap, make 3–4 shallow diagonal slashes in each hot dog. This prevents splitting and helps them heat evenly.
Lightly oil if desired: A quick spritz of cooking spray or a thin rub of oil can enhance browning, but it’s optional.
Air fry: Place hot dogs in a single layer in the basket, leaving a little space between them.
Cook for 5–6 minutes, shaking the basket or rolling them halfway through for even color.
Toast the buns: Open the buns and place them cut-side up in the basket for the last 1–2 minutes of cooking. Remove the hot dogs first if your basket is tight.
Build and serve: Add hot dogs to the warm buns. Top with condiments and your favorite extras.
Serve immediately while they’re hot and juicy.
