Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes so the basket is hot when the fish goes in.
Pat the tilapia dry: Use paper towels to remove surface moisture.
This helps the seasoning stick and promotes light crisping.
Season: In a small bowl, mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Add dried herbs or cayenne if using. Lightly brush or rub the fillets with olive oil, then coat all sides with the spice blend.
Zest half the lemon over the fish for brightness.
Arrange in the basket: Place the fillets in a single layer, seasoning side up. Do not overcrowd—work in batches if needed.
Air fry: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 6–9 minutes, depending on thickness. Thin fillets may be done at 6 minutes; thicker ones may need up to 9.
Check for doneness: The fish should flake easily with a fork and reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). The edges should look slightly crisp.
Finish and serve: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the fillets.
Top with chopped parsley or dill. Serve with veggies, a side salad, or rice.
