Total Time13 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • Bread: Thick-sliced white, sourdough, Texas toast, or whole-grain sandwich bread
  • Pizza sauce: Store-bought or homemade marinara
  • Cheese: Shredded low-moisture mozzarella; optional Parmesan for extra flavor
  • Toppings: Pepperoni, cooked sausage, diced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, or fresh basil
  • Olive oil or butter: For brushing the bread (optional, but adds crispness)
  • Seasoning: Dried oregano, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning
  • Finishing touches (optional): Hot honey, chili crisp, balsamic glaze, or a drizzle of pesto

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes. A hot basket helps the bread crisp fast.
  • Prep the bread: Brush one side lightly with olive oil or softened butter. This becomes the bottom so it toasts beautifully.
  • Sauce it: Spread 1–2 tablespoons of pizza sauce on the un-oiled side. Don’t go heavy—too much sauce can make it soggy.
  • Add cheese: Top with a generous layer of shredded mozzarella. Sprinkle a pinch of dried oregano or Italian seasoning for pizzeria vibes.
  • Layer toppings: Keep slices thin and toppings light. If using watery veggies (like mushrooms or bell peppers), pat them dry first.
  • Air fry: Place slices in a single layer in the basket. Cook at 380°F (193°C) for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the edges are golden. Check at 4 minutes; each air fryer runs a bit different.
  • Finish and serve: Let the toast rest 1–2 minutes so the cheese sets. Add fresh basil, a sprinkle of Parmesan, or a drizzle of hot honey if you like.
