Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese or 1 cup shredded
  • 1/2 cup pizza or marinara sauce thick style works best
  • 12 –16 slices mini pepperoni optional but delicious
  • 4 brioche or hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter for toasting buns
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan optional
  • Fresh basil or parsley chopped (optional garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes optional for heat

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Give it a few minutes so the basket is hot. This helps sear the patties quickly.
  • Mix the beef and seasonings. In a bowl, gently combine ground beef, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  • Don’t overwork it or the patties can turn dense.
  • Form four equal patties. Make them slightly wider than the buns and about 1/2 inch thick. Press a shallow dimple in the center to prevent puffing.
  • Lightly oil the air fryer basket. A quick spray or a wipe prevents sticking and helps browning.
  • Cook the patties. Arrange in a single layer. Air fry for 7–9 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Aim for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for well-done beef. Adjust time based on thickness and your air fryer model.
  • Add the pizza toppings. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of sauce over each patty, then add mozzarella and pepperoni. Air fry another 1–2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Toast the buns. Brush the cut sides with olive oil or butter.
  • Pop them into the air fryer for 1–2 minutes until lightly crisp. For extra flavor, sprinkle with Parmesan before toasting.
  • Assemble the burgers. Place patties on buns, add a little extra sauce if you like, and finish with basil or red pepper flakes. Serve hot.
