Ingredients

  • Oreos: Classic or any flavor you like.
  • Pancake mix: Use your favorite boxed mix (the kind that only needs water or milk).
  • Milk or water: To thin the batter. Milk makes a richer coating.
  • Egg (optional): For a slightly sturdier, fluffier batter if your mix allows it.
  • Vanilla extract (optional): Adds warmth and dessert-shop flavor.
  • Powdered sugar: For dusting.
  • Cooking spray or neutral oil: Helps the batter crisp and release from the basket.
  • Air fryer: Any style works; basket models are great for quick batches.
  • Small bowls and tongs: For mixing and dipping.

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 350°F (175°C). A warm air fryer helps the batter puff quickly and prevents sticking.
  • Make the batter: In a small bowl, whisk pancake mix with milk or water until smooth and slightly thick—think yogurt or heavy cream consistency. If using, add a splash of vanilla and one egg per package directions.
  • Prep the basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with a thin layer of oil. This keeps the batter from bonding to the grate.
  • Dip the Oreos: Use a fork or tongs to submerge each Oreo in the batter, coating completely. Let excess drip off so the coating isn’t too heavy.
  • Arrange and cook: Place coated Oreos in a single layer with a little space between. Air fry for 4–5 minutes, then gently flip and cook another 2–4 minutes until golden and puffed.
  • Check doneness: They should be lightly browned, with a set, springy coating. If pale, add 1–2 more minutes.
  • Dust and serve: Transfer to a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm. They’re best fresh, when the center is gooey.
