Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes. A hot basket helps form a better crust.
Season the beef: In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire. Mix gently with your hands just until combined. Don’t overmix or the burgers will be tough.
Shape the patties: Divide into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each).
Form 1/2-inch-thick patties slightly wider than your buns. Press a small dimple in the center of each to prevent doming.
Prep the basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking. You can also use perforated parchment made for air fryers.
Cook the first side: Place patties in a single layer, not touching.
Air fry for 6 minutes.
Flip and finish: Flip the burgers and cook 3–5 more minutes, depending on thickness and your air fryer. For safety, aim for 160°F (71°C) internal temp for ground beef. Use an instant-read thermometer if you have one.
Add cheese: Top each patty with a slice of cheese and cook 30–60 seconds more, just until melted.
Toast the buns (optional): Remove burgers and quickly toast buns in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 1–2 minutes.
Build your burger: Layer buns with sauce, lettuce, burger, tomato, onion, and pickles.
Serve hot with your favorite sides.
