Preheat the air fryer: Set to 375°F (190°C). Preheating helps build a better crust.
Mix the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire. Don’t overdo the salt at this stage—about 1 teaspoon kosher salt per pound is a good guide.
Form the patties: Gently mix the spices into the ground beef with your hands.
Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into 4-inch patties about 3/4-inch thick. Press a shallow dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing.
Prep the basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket if sticking is a concern. Avoid heavy oiling.
Air fry, first side: Place patties in the basket in a single layer with a little space between them.
Cook for 6–7 minutes.
Flip and finish: Flip the patties and cook another 4–6 minutes, depending on thickness and desired doneness. For food safety, aim for 160°F (71°C) internal temperature for ground beef.
Add cheese: If using, place a slice on each patty during the last 30–60 seconds so it melts gently.
Toast the buns (optional): Remove burgers, then add buns to the basket cut-side up for 1–2 minutes at 350°F (175°C) until lightly crisp.
Assemble: Spread sauces on the buns, add the burger, and pile on your favorite toppings. Serve hot.
