Prep Time5 minutes

Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Frozen beef burger patties (quarter-pound or third-pound work best)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Garlic powder (optional)
  • Onion powder (optional)
  • Cooking oil spray (avocado or canola; helps with browning)
  • Cheese slices (American, cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack)
  • Burger buns (brioche, potato, or sesame)
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles
  • Condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayo, special sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes. A preheated basket helps the patties brown better.
  • Lightly oil the basket with a quick spray. This reduces sticking and speeds up crisping.
  • Season the frozen patties on both sides. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a pinch of garlic and onion powder. Press seasonings in so they stick.
  • Place patties in a single layer in the basket. Leave a little space between each one for air circulation.
  • Air fry for 6–8 minutes, then carefully flip. This first side sets the crust and helps keep juices inside.
  • Continue cooking for 5–8 minutes after the flip. Cook time varies by thickness and air fryer model. Third-pound patties generally take closer to the high end.
  • Check doneness with a thermometer. Aim for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for ground beef. This ensures food safety and a juicy bite.
  • Add cheese in the last 30–60 seconds. Open the basket, top each patty, and air fry just until melted.
  • Toast the buns for 1–2 minutes in the empty basket if you like them warm and crisp at the edges.
  • Assemble with your favorite toppings and condiments. Serve hot.
