Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. A preheated basket helps the strips brown faster.
Slice the chicken: Trim the chicken breasts and slice them into even strips, about 1 inch wide.
Aim for uniform thickness so they cook at the same rate.
Season well: In a bowl, toss the strips with oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, and cayenne if using. Make sure every piece is coated.
Arrange in the basket: Place the strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. Work in batches if needed.
Cook the first side: Air fry for 6 minutes at 400°F (200°C).
Flip and finish: Turn the strips and cook for another 4–6 minutes, until the edges are browned and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Rest briefly: Let the chicken sit for 2–3 minutes to keep the juices in.
Squeeze a little lemon over the top if you like.
Serve: Pair with a salad, roasted veggies, rice, or wrap them in warm tortillas. Add dipping sauce on the side.
