Prep the air fryer: Preheat to 375°F (190°C) for 3 to 5 minutes.
Lightly mist the basket with nonstick spray or line it with a perforated parchment sheet.
Prep the bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them lengthwise. Keep the halves intact. If the bananas are very curved, you can trim the ends slightly so they sit flat.
Flavor boost: Stir the melted butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
Brush the cut sides of the bananas with this mixture.
Air fry: Place banana halves cut side up in the basket. Air fry for 5 to 6 minutes until the tops are caramelized and the bananas are tender but still hold their shape.
Add chocolate: Carefully pull out the basket and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the warm bananas. Air fry 30 to 60 seconds more, just until the chocolate softens and starts to melt.
Assemble: Transfer the warm bananas to bowls.
Add a scoop of ice cream between the halves. Top with whipped cream, nuts, and cherries. Drizzle caramel or strawberry sauce if you like.
Serve immediately: This dessert is best warm, while the chocolate is melty and the bananas are soft.
