Ingredients

  • Tilapia fillets (4 fillets, about 4–6 ounces each; fresh or thawed)
  • Olive oil (1–2 tablespoons)
  • Lemon (1 whole, for zest and juice)
  • Garlic powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Paprika (1 teaspoon; smoked or sweet)
  • Onion powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Dried oregano or Italian seasoning (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Salt (about 3/4 teaspoon, or to taste)
  • Black pepper (1/2 teaspoon, freshly ground if possible)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Cooking spray (for the air fryer basket)

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes. A hot basket helps prevent sticking and gives a better texture.
  • Pat the tilapia dry with paper towels. Removing extra moisture helps the seasoning stick and improves browning.
  • Mix the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Zest half the lemon and add the zest to the mix.
  • Oil and season: Drizzle the fillets with olive oil on both sides. Sprinkle the seasoning evenly over each fillet, gently pressing it in so it adheres.
  • Prepare the basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the fillets in a single layer, seasoned side up. Avoid overlapping.
  • Cook for 7–10 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Thin fillets may be done in 7 minutes; thicker ones can take up to 10. The fish is ready when it flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  • Finish with lemon: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cooked fillets. Add chopped parsley if you like.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite sides—steamed green beans, quinoa, roasted potatoes, or a crisp salad.
